FOR EDUCATORS
As an instructor, The Survival Series™
will enable you to teach practical living skills by using
the many examples of real-life situations presented in each
state Survival guide. Your students will immediately
realize the benefits of their assignments as they clip ads
for housing and jobs or acquire a Social Security Card or
a copy of their birth certificate. Each guide becomes a reference
tool that will serve your students for years to come.
| The Survival Series™
Course Objectives |
- To provide a structure for teaching students of
all backgrounds the survival skills necessary for
coping with the problems of everyday life.
- To emphasize the practical aspects of each survival skill
(e.g. how to handle a checking account or to secure a loan).
- To provide learning materials in a form that can serve as
a future reference for students.
- To introduce only those materials (tax forms, job application
forms, etc.) that are current and relevant to the students'
needs.
- To emphasize comprehension rather than repetition. Exercises
are designed to foster understanding and to avoid "busy
work."
- To encourage learning on an individualized basis. Each student
can work at his or her own rate, advancing to a new topic
as soon as the one being studied has been mastered. Attention
to individual needs should be stressed. Students may enter
or complete the course at any time during the term.
- To maintain a classroom atmosphere that is comfortable and
conducive to student inquiry, while treating students as
mature and responsible adults.
